Sculpted
prims were introduced to the Second Life grid a year ago this month.
Because their three dimensional shape is derived from the color values
in a texture, as opposed to extruding a two dimensional shape along a
path, content creators are able to build shape that are more organic
than that which is possible using the standrd system tools. Since their
debut, content creators have been using sculpties to create everything
from mountains and water to florals and furniture.
In the
world of SL(tm) fashion, sculpties have become the building medium of
choice for hat and shoe designers. Tesla Miles, owner of the boutique
bearing her name, Tesla, was one of, if not, the very first to
introduce sculpted prim hats to the ever-changing landscape of SL
fashion. I recently had an opportunity to discuss with Tesla how she
began building and what prompted her to design hats.

Three lucky Second Life residents could be richer in spirit as well as in their wallet if they answer the challenge successfully. A group of panelists met to answer questions about this effort with 49 residents in attendance.
The University of Southern California at Annenberg (USC) School of
Communication Network Culture Project is offering a contest open to
Second Life residents. The goal is to plan and build something within
SL that uses this virtual world to enhance, develop or sustain the
public good.

TREASURE COVE - Looking for love in all the wrong virtual places? A new three part series has the Soul Utions (solutions). It begins tonight and is entitled “SL and Beyond: Friendship, Romance and Other Forms of Networking in a Virtual Environment.” The presentation will occur at 7 pm SLT at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Treasure%20Cove/128/96/37
Dr. Grascious
Streeter, a real life psychologist, will be presenting all three
sessions in voice. Streeter will take questions in advance by IM. The
lecture is free but tips are appreciated.
Streeter will examine
the history of net relationships from the beginning with bulletin board
systems in the 1970s and 1980 to chat rooms and then to the use of
fantasy and avatars in current virtual worlds. She will explore ethics
in relating to one another. Special populations and their use of SL
and virtual worlds will be explored. The series will also touch on the
implications of the current definition of monogamy and whether to take
your SL relationship to your first life.
